Olivia Sung, AMFT
Specializing in Identity, Anxiety & Family Dynamics | Therapy for the AAPI & LGBTQIA2S+ Communities
Taking the first step toward healing can be tough, but you don’t have to do it alone.
My name is Olivia, and I’m an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist based in San Diego. My passion for this work stems from my own mental health journey and a deep desire to be the kind of support I once needed.
In our work together, I value the connection we build — one rooted in trust, empathy, and authenticity — so you can feel truly seen, heard, and accepted without judgment. I believe this kind of connection creates the safety needed for real growth and healing.
A bit about my background: I received my B.A. in Psychology and a B.A. in Gender & Women’s Studies from UC Berkeley. Both degrees continue to shape my perspective as a therapist. As a second-generation Asian American bisexual woman who has spent much of her life navigating predominantly white spaces, I bring personal insight into identity exploration, cultural stress, and the deep human need for belonging. I went on to earn my M.A. in Clinical Psychology with an emphasis in Marriage and Family Therapy from Pepperdine Graduate School of Education and Psychology.
During my therapist traineeship, I worked with children, teens, and young adults, and provided relational support to families from diverse and underserved backgrounds. I’ve supported clients navigating anxiety, depression, self-harm, identity and self-esteem issues, PMDD, maladaptive coping, complex family dynamics, personality disorders, and dealing with life transitions.
My approach is collaborative and tailored to your unique needs. I integrate elements of Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Internal Family Systems (IFS), Play and Art Therapy, and postmodern approaches like Narrative and Solution-Focused Therapy. I strive to offer culturally responsive, inclusive care where all parts of your identity — including race, gender, sexuality, and culture — are honored and celebrated.
I don’t have all the answers, and I don’t expect you to either. But I’m here to help you explore the different parts of yourself with curiosity, compassion, and care. Together, we can create space for reflection, healing, and becoming a version of you that is someone you’re proud of.
I can’t wait to meet you!
